Inner City Outings (ICO) is a Sierra Club community outreach program that provides opportunities for urban youth and adults to explore, enjoy and protect the natural world. Almost fifty ICO groups exist across the United States, conducting approximately 1,000 outings for nearly 14,000 participants. The program is entirely volunteer-run.
Raleigh ICO works with two community agencies, Rich Park and Heritage Park/Communities in Schools. About once a month, we take the kids from the agencies out on trips to nearby parks, nature centers and environmental education facilities. Our goal is to enrich the children's lives by providing a fun, supportive atmosphere for learning about and appreciating nature.
